Kläir awoke suddenly,as if from a dream. She flailed under her sheets, but they only tangled around her limbs causing her to lose balance and fall out of bed. As Kläir opened her eyes it seemed the room was filled with an unearthly light and it grew brighter until she was forced to blink. In that moment the light vanished, though it left her feeling warm, safe, and extremely sleepy. Within seconds she had fallen asleep on the floor.

Ellie, Kläir's grandmother, awoke with her. It was not the noise that awoke her, as she slept as deep as the night, but the light. Ellie could feel it. Although it did not feel evil, she was soon in slipppers and off to Kläir. Kläir's room was above the kitchen in the only space available between their winter stores, pickled fruits, vegatables, and ground wheat. The attic was large, the size of the house, but atleast half of it was used for storage and the ceiling sloped steeply making it feel even smaller. Ellie practically flew up the stairs and through the open door, but all was safe. There was Kläir asleep on the floor in a krystalis of blankets. Ellie brushed away the dep auburn hair away from Kläir's face and gasped. The cresent moon scar on Kläir's forhead glew in the dark with a strong and staedy light throwing long shadows on Kläir's face, aging it many years. Ellie took Kläir in her arms and wept silently even though a smile played at her lips. Gently Ellie lifted her to the bed, what should have been a major task for some one of her age, and tucked her in. Ellie, not ready for the walk back, just laid down next to her. As the moon began it slow descent home, it felt as though the was settling down for a nap, though ever tense.
